THE MARRIAGE OF THE KING’S SON

1 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: 2"The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. 4Again, he sent out other servants, saying, "Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding."' 5But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. 6And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. 7But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8Then he said to his servants, "The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.' 10So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11"But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. 12So he said to him, "Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. 13Then the king said to the servants, "Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
14"For many are called, but few are chosen." – Matt 22:1-14

Do you quite understand this parable? The kingdom of God is like this parable. We implore you to open you heart and let our Father speak to you today through His Word. We will divide this parable based on the Word of God.

A certain king (God the Father) invited some people to the wedding of His son. The Son is our Lord Jesus Christ, the bridegroom. The invited guests (the Jews) refused to come giving all kind of excuses. Some said they had to work; some said they had to go to their farms; and the rest killed the servants of the king. This is a picture of the original plan of God which is salvation first to the Jews. Salvation was first to the Jew and also to the Greek. Rom 1:16, 1Cor 12:13. The Jews rejected this plan of salvation willfully by trying to establish their righteousness by works and not by faith. They even killed many of the prophets that were sent to them as the parable has mentioned. History has it that Apostle Peter was crucified upside down at his own request because he thought he was unworthy to die head up like his master, Lord Jesus. Andrew was crucified in Scythia/Greece. Herod Agrippa, the grandson of Herod the great killed James. Thomas was pierced with a spear after being thrown into a furnace and was not consumed. Another Apostle of Christ, Judas, brother of James the son of Alphaeus was beaten to death.

After wards the king sent his other servants to the highways to all people whether good or bad, regardless of their social position, and condition, whether poor or rich. These people accepted the invitation and they came to the feast/party. These people are a picture of the Gentiles, where most of us reading this mail originally belong. It is customary for the king to provide festive apparel from his wardrobe for the people that attend his party (especially the poor) and it is usually a mark of honor to receive from the king. Anyone who refuses the king’s garment has dishonored and insulted the King. The guests must also appear before the king clean clothed and prepared. We have examples of these in Joseph before Pharaoh and Esther before King Ahasuerus.

From the parable we can see so many people were invited from the highways and roadsides and they accepted the king’s invitation willingly. Now, there was this particular man who honored the invitation and after he got to the party he refused to wear the king’s garment which has been provided him. How do we know that the garment was already provided him? From verse 12 in the parable, when the king asked him why he had no wedding garment on, he had no excuse! For if it has not been provided for him, would he not have told the king he had no money to buy one? He would have told the king and this would have been a good excuse since the king knew some of the people he invited for the party were poor. You know what happened to this man, don’t you? He was bounded hand and foot and casted to the outer darkness.

The wedding garment which this man refused to put on represents righteousness. It symbolizes the habit of sincerity, repentance, humility, and obedience. It replaces the street clothes that stand for the habits of pride, rebellion, and sinfulness. This righteousness is attained through Jesus Christ by total submission to God the Father. Apostle Paul exhorts us to "put on the Lord Jesus Christ" like a garment. Clothing, then, represents a Christ-covered life, a life free of sin and every form of unrighteousness.

Many Christians today are like this man. They have willingly accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior but have refused to obey the commandments of our Lord. They claim and profess to be in the Kingdom of our Lord but go against every word of the Lord willingly. Have you not read the scriptures in John 14:15 where hence the Lord said “if you love me OBEY MY COMMANDMENTS? Therefore once we are saved and accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior we need to continue to obey every word that the Lord has said and commanded us. Whosoever fails to do these commandments disobeys the Lord and will be cast into outer darkness, even after being born again by accepting our Lord Jesus as Savior. This parable proves it. Surely, whosoever disobeys the Lord and the Lord cometh and finds him in that disobedience will not partake of the Catching Away (Rapture). This man will NEVER see the Lord except he truly repents.

Luke 13:23-24 declares “Then one said to Him, "Lord, are there few who are saved? And He said to them, STRIVE to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.”

This is the word of our Lord Jesus Himself. He said we should strive to enter through the narrow gate. This means that the way of life is not an easy road to walk but He said we should strive because many will seek it but will not be able to enter. Sure, they truly seek, but they willingly obey a part of God’s word and disregard the others. They even say it’s impossible to do some thereby calling God a liar and despising His Grace and Word. Indeed they seek, but still disobey the Word. Please remember the parable above. Despite the fact that the man showed his willingness to enter by accepting the invitation, he still refused to FULLY OBEY the words of the king by not wearing the king’s garment. In the end, he was cast out.

Striving means an effortful attempt to attain a goal. So in this race that we are in, we need to put all effort that it takes to be able to make it to the end. This means full submission to the Holy Spirit by feeding on the Word DAILY and EVERYTIME so you are without sin and any unrighteousness at EVERY MOMENT. Our Lord Jesus Christ is coming very soon for us His children. Please brethren, be prepared because He is only coming for those that are waiting for His coming (Heb 9:28). It is sooner than anyone can imagine so please be prepared everyday. We implore you to believe and prepare. The Lord surely will come at the appointed time whether anyone believes or not. He is the Lord and we are nothing without Him. He promised not to come to us as a thief in the night if we watch and pray always. Therefore what I say unto you I say unto all, WATCH and PRAY!

We MUST fight the good fight of faith and lay hold on eternal life. (1 Tim 6:12). We MUST contend and discipline our body and bring it to subjection 1Corith 9:27 DAILY. We need to lay aside every weight and sin which easily besets us and run this race with endurance.

Imagine being in heaven. Seeing God the Father face to face. Seeing our Lord Jesus face to face. Living in the castle prepared for you. Imagine walking on the streets of Gold. Imagine seeing all the apostles and the prophets of old face to face. Imagine going to a place where there is no more pain, sorrow, sin, lack, sickness, poverty, and anything evil. Heaven is just unimaginable. Set all these realities before your face and run with it DAILY. Let heaven be your goal.

You can endure and be faithful in your calling now and get an incorruptible reward from the Lord. Is it persecution from friends or colleagues at work that you are afraid of? Is it your family, money, children, work, or achievements that are hindering you from FULLY obeying the Lord’s Word? Have you not read the scriptures in Matt 10:37 whence the Lord said “Whosoever loveth Father or Mother more than me is not worthy of me and whosoever loveth Son or Daughter more than me is not worthy of me”? If the Lord is not more precious to you than all that are mentioned above, your Love for the Lord is not yet perfected. The Lord loves you more than all of these people. More than your wife or husbands.

Press into the Lord. Pray and ask for the help of our Lord. His grace is sufficient for you. Be open before Him. Tell Him your weaknesses. Ask for His help and be willing to follow His leading which is usually in His Word. May the Lord God, our Father, strengthen you through His Son, Lord Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, and make you blameless and holy till his coming in Jesus’ name. May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
